A record number of students submitted applications for Ohio’s EdChoice scholarships during the first application window that closed May 9. Families can continue to apply now for the scholarships during the second application window, which is open through July 31.
According to the Ohio Department of Education, 18,228 students applied for an EdChoice school-based scholarship and 3,209 students applied for an EdChoice income-based scholarship in the first window.
A comparison of this year and last year’s EdChoice application numbers for the first window shows an increase of more than 4,000 applications this year (21,437 vs 16,848). This is thanks in large part to the availability of the new income-based scholarships.
The department also reported that 7,677 applications were received for the Cleveland Scholarship and Tutoring Program, and 3,295 students applied for the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program.
